Dr. Bruce Lipton, one of my favorite thinkers of today relates the evolution of society today to the evolution of species over the span of the eons. The same way a fractal can be viewed at different levels to see the same image, so can the structure of the global organism that is life be seen as the ever changing structure of organization on a different scale.
As I have stated before, cells which are independent of each other, work together within the body to create the various systems responsible for the technology of life, so do the various species present on the planet. A fish functions on its own, yet is instinctually drawn to other fish to create the school, which acts as a collective organism in the water. The same can be said for any other species on the planet. Cooperation is in our nature, and this can be seen in the way we form communities, and work together to achieve all of the miracles of modern technology seen today, yet we seem to be on the verge of destruction. Why?
We are on the cusp of the birth of a new way of life. The chaos of the present day is the death of the old way of life, and the birth of a new world, which brings me to Dr. Lipton’s evolution of society. Civilization is a living organism like an animal. In our earliest days, we were a mariculture, and we lived on the coastlines by the sea. This represents the fish phase of evolution. We could not live without the water and what it provided for us. This phase of civilization subsided when we began to irrigate the land, and became an amphibian culture. We needed the water, but we no longer needed to live on the water. We could carry water with us inland further and further, and still get what we required from the sea, without being bound to it.
Reptiles were the first animals designed to live on land without abundances of water to survive, almost like a machine, both in the way it moves and the way it survives. Well, the reptilian age is equivalent to that of the industrial age, the birth of the machine. Coincidentally, we are still in this stage of society in some ways, and fueling it with the blood of the dinosaur (the fuel of the fossil). This phase of society changed in 1903 when the dinosaur took flight, and the height of that societal evolution was in 1969 when the dinosaur society landed on the moon. Once we reached space, a picture of our bright blue planet was taken, and within a very short time, Earth day was created. You see, those hippies saw the earth for the first time in its entirety, and realized how precious it was and that we needed to nurture and take care of her.
Nurturing and caring are traits of mammals, and as just as the “flying dinosaurs” reached the moon, the phase of mammal civilization was born. This seeding of the mammalian civilization was the beginning, and though the dinosaurs still control the world, they are running out of fuel, and they are beginning to die. As it was said in the Christian bible,” …And the meek shall inherit the Earth.” Well, it is happening right now. Society is slowly but surely growing into one of caring and nurturing, and the voices for change are amplifying that field more so every day. Just as one aspect of a fractal image changes the whole image, so one idea in this fractal infrastructure changes the whole way we operate, from a civilization of competition to one of cooperation and preservation.
The undeniable fact is that the Earth is the organism, not us. The planet is the living thing, and we are simply a facet of that life form. This civilization is evolving within the biosphere we call home, and one of two things will happen in this process: We will evolve into a cohesive unit working towards a thriving cohabitation for generations to come, or we will not and the sixth mass extinction will take its course. As an optimist, and a painter of reality myself, I believe that we will come to our senses in time and save build a better world. Some people I care about think that we are not capable ourselves, and we require some higher salvation. I think that is an irresponsible way of looking at things. We made this mess, and we cannot wait for some outside savior to put things right, it is up to us. I am not knocking faith, mind you—just religion itself. Find “God” within you. Do not rely on some organization to tell you what to think or believe. Think for yourself, and make the relationship you have with the creative force a personal one. Though I believe we are a collective being, just as the single cells within us, we are individual beings in that collective whose experience in a personal one. I know I am a broken record, but “be the change you want to see in the world.” You alone can change an entire fractal. Oh, and as for the title of this post: Television is mutating your brain, turning a being capable of rational thought and creative expression into a zombie. The zombie apocalypse is real, and it has begun– have a nice day.
